Troubleshoot Your HDC140

Covers the full HDC140 range — HDC140-110, HDC140-240, HDC140-110HR and HDC140-240HR. Pick the problem below and we’ll show you the most likely cause, the step-by-step fix, and any parts you might need.

All HDC140 models covered The HDC140-110 and HDC140-240 differ only in voltage and pressure (110V / 100 Bar vs 240V / 140 Bar). The HR variants add an integrated hose reel. The pump, motor unit, gun, lance, hose, nozzles and all service parts are common across the range. Every issue and fix on this page applies equally to all four variants.

5 Things To Check Before Anything Else

1. Water on firstAlways turn the water supply on and squeeze the trigger to bleed air through before switching the motor on. Never run the pump dry — even briefly.
2. Power supply110V machine on a 110V centre-tap transformer; 240V machine on a 13A or 16A socket. Check the breaker or RCD has not tripped.
3. No long extension cables240V on a long thin extension causes voltage drop and prevents the motor starting. Use a heavy-duty drum lead or plug direct.
4. Inlet strainerUnscrew the inlet fitting and pull the strainer out. Rinse clear of grit, scale and debris. A blocked strainer starves the pump.
5. Daily use limitThe HDC140 is rated for 2–3 hours per day. Running beyond this causes the thermal cut-out to trip. Let the machine cool for 20 minutes before restarting.
