Oil & Gas and Mining — Industrial Cleaning Equipment
V-TUF supplies industrial pressure washers, hot water cleaning systems, dust extraction equipment and industrial vacuums to oil and gas facilities, mining operations, energy sector contractors and the procurement and engineering houses that supply them. V-TUF equipment is specified in oil and gas and mining environments because it is built to the duty cycle and specification demands of continuous industrial operations — not light-commercial or domestic equipment uprated for industrial use.
Oil and gas applications
Refinery and processing plant cleaning
Oil refineries, gas processing facilities and petrochemical plants require industrial pressure washers and hot water cleaning systems for heat exchanger cleaning, vessel external cleaning, pipe rack maintenance, plant room floor cleaning and general facility maintenance. Hot water pressure washing at 70–155°C provides more effective removal of hydrocarbon contamination than cold water. Equipment specified for refinery and processing plant use must be compatible with the chemical environment — chemical-resistant seals and stainless lance construction are the correct specification where cleaning chemical exposure is likely.
Upstream and wellhead operations
Upstream oil and gas operations — wellhead facilities, gathering stations, pipeline maintenance and associated infrastructure — require self-contained cleaning equipment that can operate independently of mains water and power. Diesel bowser-mounted pressure washers provide fully self-contained capability for remote upstream locations. Where equipment is to be used in or near classified hazardous areas, ATEX-rated specification is required — standard pressure washers are not suitable for use in ATEX zones. See: DSEAR and ATEX — explosion-proof equipment guidance
Mining and quarrying cleaning
Mining and quarrying operations generate heavy contamination — mineral dust, drilling mud, equipment grease and diesel — across plant, vehicles and infrastructure. Typical cleaning operations include haul truck and plant vehicle wash-down, crushing and screening plant cleaning, conveyor system maintenance, workshop and maintenance bay cleaning. Industrial pressure washers with high flow rates (15–20 LPM) are the correct specification for heavy plant cleaning. M-Class dust extraction for general mineral dust in workshop and maintenance areas; H-Class extraction where silica-containing mineral dust is generated.
Power generation facility cleaning
Power generation facilities — gas turbine plants, diesel generator stations, combined heat and power installations — require regular cleaning of turbine enclosures, generator hall floors, cooling system surrounds and fuel storage areas. Hot water pressure washing for oil and grease contamination. Industrial vacuums for dry dust and debris in electrical areas. DSEAR assessment required for fuel storage cleaning operations.
Oil, gas and mining compliance topics
- DSEAR 2002 and ATEX — hazardous area classification — standard electrical cleaning equipment must not be used in ATEX-classified zones. Equipment for use in hazardous areas must carry appropriate ATEX certification. Further reading: DSEAR and ATEX
- COSHH — hydrocarbon and chemical exposure — cleaning operations in oil and gas environments involve exposure to hydrocarbons, drilling fluids, H2S and cleaning chemicals. COSHH assessment required for all cleaning activities. Further reading: COSHH Regulations 2002
- Environmental Permitting — hydrocarbon wash-down — wash-down water containing hydrocarbon contamination must not reach surface water or groundwater. Containment and disposal as controlled waste or trade effluent consent required. Further reading: Environmental Permitting
- HSE EH40 — mineral dust WELs — silica-containing mineral dusts generated in mining and quarrying have specific Workplace Exposure Limits. M-Class or H-Class extraction required depending on dust type and concentration. Further reading: HSE EH40 | M-Class extraction | H-Class extraction
- PUWER 1998 — cleaning equipment as work equipment — all pressure washers and vacuums used in oil, gas and mining operations are work equipment under PUWER. Further reading: PUWER 1998
Equipment specification for oil, gas and mining
- Hot water pressure washers — for hydrocarbon and grease contamination removal. Hot water at 70–155°C emulsifies hydrocarbon residue significantly more effectively than cold water, reducing chemical usage and cleaning time.
- Diesel bowser pressure washers — self-contained, trailer-mounted units for remote upstream locations without mains water or power. V-TUF DELUGE range provides cold and hot water capability from a fully self-contained diesel unit.
- Industrial wet and dry vacuums — for mineral dust, drilling mud and general debris in maintenance areas. V-TUF XR range provides the suction and capacity for heavy industrial use.
- M-Class dust extractors — for mineral dust in workshop and maintenance environments. Further reading: M-Class extraction
- H-Class dust extractors — where silica-containing mineral dust is generated. Further reading: H-Class extraction
