Swimming Pool Maintenance & Installation — Industrial Cleaning Equipment

V-TUF supplies pressure washers, hot water units, industrial vacuums and surface cleaners to swimming pool maintenance contractors, pool installation companies, leisure centre operators and hotel pool maintenance teams across the UK. V-TUF equipment is specified in pool maintenance environments because it is built to the chemical resistance and duty cycle requirements of regular poolside, plant room and filter room cleaning.

Pool maintenance applications

Pool surround and deck cleaning

Pool surrounds accumulate algae, biofilm, calcium scale, sunscreen residue and general soiling rapidly in humid pool hall environments. Typical operations include weekly or fortnightly pressure washing of poolside tiles, non-slip surfaces, coping stones and overflow channels. Hot water pressure washing at 70–90°C with appropriate detergent provides more effective biofilm removal than cold water alone. Surface cleaner attachments prevent overspray onto pool water. COSHH assessment required for all cleaning chemicals used poolside.

Filter room and plant room cleaning

Pool plant rooms house filtration, dosing, heating and pump equipment in a permanently damp, chemically active environment. Typical operations include monthly pressure washing of plant room floors and walls, vacuum cleaning of electrical enclosure surrounds, and cleaning of filter media housings, pump bases and chemical dosing equipment. Chemical resistance of equipment specification matters — pool water treatment chemicals are aggressive to seals and pump components not rated for chemical exposure. V-TUF hot water pressure washers with stainless lance and chemical-resistant fittings are the correct specification.

Pool installation and refurbishment

Pool installation and refurbishment generates significant tile dust, grout dust, concrete and screed dust. M-Class extraction for general tile and screed dust. Where cutting is carried out on silica-containing tiles or stone pool surrounds, H-Class extraction is required under COSHH and HSE EH40. CDM 2015 applies to pool construction and major refurbishment works.

Leisure centre and hotel pool maintenance

Leisure centre and hotel pool operators maintain busy schedules with limited downtime between sessions. Typical operations include early-morning and late-evening poolside cleaning, changing room wash-down, sauna and steam room maintenance and external plant compound cleaning. Equipment must be portable, quiet in operation where possible, and ready for immediate use — V-TUF's range of portable hot water and cold water pressure washers meets leisure facility operational requirements.

Pool maintenance compliance topics

  • COSHH — pool chemicals and cleaning products — chlorine, pH adjustment chemicals and cleaning detergents used in pool environments are substances hazardous to health. COSHH assessment required for all products used poolside. Further reading: COSHH Regulations 2002
  • Tile and stone dust — silica risk — pool surround and pool hall cutting operations on ceramic tile, natural stone and concrete generate RCS dust. M-Class extraction minimum; H-Class where silica content is high. Further reading: M-Class extraction | H-Class extraction | HSE EH40
  • CDM 2015 — pool installation and major refurbishment — applies to all notifiable pool construction and refurbishment projects. Further reading: CDM 2015
  • Environmental Permitting — wash-down water — pool surround and plant room wash-down containing chlorine or cleaning chemical must not reach surface water drains without appropriate treatment. Further reading: Environmental Permitting
  • PUWER 1998 — all cleaning equipment used in leisure facility environments is work equipment under PUWER. Further reading: PUWER 1998

Pool environment — equipment specification considerations

  • Chemical resistance — pool water treatment chemicals (hypochlorite, muriatic acid, cyanuric acid) are aggressive to standard pressure washer seals and lance components. Specify stainless steel lances and chemical-resistant fittings for any equipment used regularly in pool chemical environments.
  • Non-slip surfaces — pool surround non-slip tiles and coatings require controlled pressure and the correct nozzle angle to clean effectively without removing the non-slip texture. Surface cleaner attachments with adjustable pressure are the correct tool for non-slip pool surrounds.
  • Wet environment electrical safety — all cleaning equipment used in pool halls and wet leisure environments must be appropriately rated. 110V transformer-fed equipment is the correct specification for plant rooms and enclosed pool hall environments.
  • Portable specification — pool maintenance contractors working across multiple sites require portable equipment. V-TUF's portable hot water pressure washers provide mains-independent hot water capability for on-site pool cleaning without fixed installation.
