Legislation that applies

Environmental Permitting Regulations 2016 — Wash-down water from fleet vehicles, food production and agricultural operations is trade effluent. Discharge to surface water drains is a criminal offence. Discharge to sewer requires trade effluent consent from the relevant water company.

COSHH Regulations 2002 — Hot water pressure washing with detergent or degreaser is a COSHH activity. Operatives must be assessed for exposure to the cleaning products in use.

BRC/BRCGS Food Safety Standard — Hot water cleaning at 70–80°C is the industry standard for food contact surface hygiene. Hot water pressure washing is assessed as part of BRC, BRCGS and SALSA food safety audits.
